My Backyard Rules Festival

Residents interested in sustainable gardening practices and creating a healthy and productive backyard should mark Saturday, 11 November 2006 on their calendars.

For the third year running, the free “My Backyard Rules” event will be hosted by the Wangaratta Rural City Council and the Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE at the Christensen Lane Campus.

My Backyard Rules comprises a series of information sessions, interactive demonstrations, hands-on workshops and displays commencing at 9.30am. Some of the sessions include grey water and recycled water use, permaculture, caring for your lawn, composting and mulching, water wise irrigation, worm farming, water testing and weeds.

This year the Rural City of Wangaratta Community Pride Awards will also be announced at 11.30 am. The Awards recognise residents and organisations who are doing great things in their community. The categories include the Great Gardens Awards with three sections – private garden under 0.2 hectare, private garden over 0.2 hectare and non-private garden.

Registration for the event is at 9.15am. Displays and demonstrations on propagation and seed sowing will run all morning. A BBQ lunch will be held from 12.30pm.
