Other CFA district fire updates

King Valley/Wangaratta Complex

Pizzini fire has been listed as contained with crews working overnight to consolidate containment lines. However, residents in the Hardys Lane, Upper King River Road, Cheshunt and areas to the south east are advised that if the fire breaks containment lines under the predicted north westerly winds today then their properties may be under threat.

The Loombah fire has been tracked at 150ha however the fire is still not listed as contained. Fire fighters have worked throughout the night to consolidate these lines. The communities of Myrrhee and Upper 15 Mile Creek Road are also advised that their properties may be under threat if the fire breaks under the influence of the predicted north westerly winds.

Community members in the above areas are advised to activate their bushfire survival plan if they have not already done so.

The rugged terrain and hot conditions is making fire-fighting efforts very difficult in the Black Range area. A breakout to the north west corner has resulted in fire moving down to border private land. A containment line has also been breached in the south.

The fire at Rose River, 7 km south of Abbeyard, has burnt more than 2000 hectares. Crews continue to monitor assets along the Upper Rose River Road.

North East Water has issued a Boil Water Notice for Whitfield as a result of the fire threat in the King Valley effective immediately.

Ovens Complex

Firefighting crews are working on Quest-Bright, Mt Buggery, and Sugarloaf and Upper Humffray fires. All fires worked on overnight were on the 2003 previously burnt areas. Fire behaviour was not very active allowing for backburning of the eastern edges throughout the night.

The focus of crews has been on preparation for the Total Fire Ban Day today, particularly asset protection in the Abbeyard area.

Road closures are in place on the Buffalo River Valley Road at Merriang, the end of the asphalt road in Buckland Valley and the Dargo Road from the Great Alpine Road.

Mansfield Complex

Back-burning operations continued throughout the night at the Mount Terrible fire, which is resulting in an increase in smoke. Work will continue in the area in the hope of containing the fire this week.

All fires previously identified as contained remain contained.

The high temperatures and poor weather conditions predicted over the next few days are expected to create some problems with fires in the north of the complex.
