FUNDING BOOST FOR RURAL VICTORIA’S LOCAL TREASURES

Some of Victoria’s best-loved local treasures will receive a boost of nearly a quarter of a million dollars this year under a four-year, $1.75 million land stewardship grants program.

The Minister for Planning, Rob Hulls, said Stewardship in Action grants worth a total of $248,131 will be available to the 39 Committees of Management appointed to look after Crown Land Reserves.

The Stewardship in Action grants come from Moving Forward, the Bracks Government’s Provincial Victoria Growth Fund.

“Moving Forward highlighted the Bracks Government’s commitment to supporting small towns. The Stewardship in Action grants do just this by providing funding to upgrade facilities on reserves within small settlements,” Mr Hulls said.

“Across Victoria are a multitude of local treasures that are an important part of life in a small community.

“Local halls, parks and playgrounds: they are all an intrinsic part of the health and wellbeing of the community, so it is vital that we help protect, upgrade and maintain them.”

Grants ranging from $1500 – $28,000 have been awarded to upgrade facilities in Gippsland, and the State’s north-east, west and south-western regions.

Projects include kitchen refits, installing disabled toilets and access ramps, ceiling insulation and playground equipment upgrades.

Mr Hulls also applauded the work of the Committees of Management in looking after these vital local facilities.

“Volunteers make up these committees, and I would like to thank these people for their passion and a commitment to their communities,” he said.

“We are looking forward to our working relationship continuing with these committees as we help to secure the future of Victoria’s precious natural and built assets.”
