Brendon Nelson: a friend of the North East

“The election of Brendan Nelson is good news for the North-East and Border region,” Sophie Mirabella, the Federal Member for Indi, said today.

“Brendan Nelson is a regular visitor to our area, most recently when he announced that the Australian Government would contribute over $39 million to upgrade defence facilities at Bandiana,” Mrs Mirabella said.

“As well as having family locally, he is well aware of the importance of our region to the country – from our important location in the Murray basin, to our defence facilities, to our important national economic significance.”

“He also will ensure that the Liberal Party is able to provide an alternative government, and a principled opposition.”

“While the new leadership of the Liberal Party represents a new chapter in its history, it is important to remember the Howard Government’s achievements – paying back Labor’s debt, while building, protecting and securing Australia’s future.”

“I will be working with Brendan Nelson to ensure that the North-East is well represented in the national policies and values of the Liberal Party in the future.”
