Coalition broadband subsidy still available

“I encourage local residents to take advantage of the Coalition’s Australian Broadband Guarantee before the Labor Party abolishes it,” Sophie Mirabella, the Federal Member for Indi, said today.

Under the Coalition Government, all households were guaranteed affordable, metropolitan-equivalent, broadband internet services through the Australian Broadband Guarantee. It is unclear if this programme will continue under the new Labor Government which has already committed to abolishing the Communication Fund intended to future-proof rural and regional telecommunications.

“If you want broadband internet services, and you cannot get ADSL (for example, if you are located more than four kilometres from a telephone exchange) you should hurry up and apply for a subsidised satellite service,” Mrs Mirabella said.

“Under the Australian Broadband Guarantee, the Australian Government will contribute $2,750 towards the installation of a satellite internet service where needed, making such services affordable and accessible to many people in our area.”

“With the Labor Government’s lack of interest in regional broadband internet access, I don’t want local residents to miss out, so they should get in quickly.”

“Residents can access this subsidy by visiting http://www.broadbandnow.gov.au or phoning 1800 883 488, 8am to 9pm, Monday to Friday.”
