The Kelly Gang is coming to town

The “Kelly Gang” will come to Melbourne

on Wednesday 11 March 2009

...to push for the re opening of the Glenrowan Railway Station as part of the $500 million upgrade of the North East Victoria Railway from Seymour to Wodonga.

The Kelly Gang (Glenrowan residents) are extremely disappointed that the Department of Transport (DOT) failed to consider the re opening of Glenrowan Railway Station in the original proposal.

Further, when requested to do so DOT failed to consider the impact of a re opened Glenrowan Railway Station on tourism.

Concurrently Tourism Victoria have a multimillion dollar Ned Kelly Interpretative Centre at Glenrowan high on their priority project list and they expect tourism numbers to grow from the current 250,000 per year up to 500,000 to 750,000 per year.

The Kelly Gang will be at the City Square, Melbourne from 10.30am to 12 noon gathering support from people who may visit Glenrowan if a train service direct to Glenrowan was available.

Then the Kelly Gang will proceed to Parliament House, arriving at about 12.30pm to 1pm where they will be met by local MP Bill Sykes and Shadow Minister for Transport Terry Mulder and fellow Liberal-National Coalition MPs.

Later the Kelly Gang will meet staff from the Minister for Public Transport’s Office and senior DOT staff.
