Why are Australian soldiers in Afghanistan?

    • Admitting that the war effort in Afghanistan has flaws is an important step, Mr Fitzgibbon says.Defence Minister Joel Fitzgibbon says he welcomes the admission by US President Barack Obama that the western forces are losing the war in Afghanistan.
    • Mr Fitzgibbon says admitting that the war effort in Afghanistan has flaws is an important step.

      "I've said for some time now, indeed the Australian Government has said we need to do better, we need properly resourced and coordinated military, and civil, and political plans," he said.

      "That's what I'm confident we will get out of the United States and NATO, once the current planning process is completed."

      • It is good to see the Australian Government questioning the conduct of the war in Afghanistan.
      • As we are not a member of the NATO group, I fail to understand why Australia has troops over there in the first place. - post by gnaylor

Mr Fitzgibbon is a refreshing change from the Howard years. Bringing a large dose of reality into defence spending.

I want to know if the USA is dropping depleted uranium weapons on the people of Afghanistan like they did to the poor Iraqis. And are we aiding and abetting this.
